Almost time to be an adult again!…..almost.

It has been such a nice summer! Drinking, playing with friends, child-like activities spread throughout my weeks….. ahhh….. what a life! Realizing that in just 2 weeks my beautiful children will have to return to their normal fall through spring school activities makes me feel a tad sad. Not “I think I am going to cry” sad, but more of the “wow, I really enjoyed the last few months and it’s time for change” kind of sad. I will miss the relaxed schedules and bare feet. And I will for sure miss being able to say “Sure we can stay up and have another drink, we don’t have to be any where in the morning!” Just like when I was a kid.

So, what makes this summer different then past summers, as an adult? Well, I am pretty sure it has everything to do with embracing my personal power of life control mind-set. Another words, using what I have learned to take control and enjoy my moments no matter what they may be! I have found the secret to happiness! It involves relaxing my mind, body and spirit to a level of LOVE. It involves realizing that I need not take on the worries of others and just go with what feels “good and right” even if it’s just for that moment! Did I let some things GO? yes, I sure did. Like a couple of jobs that were making me feel anxiety. I let go blogging for a few weeks at a time (and NOT feel bad about it), there was also another computer job project that I was trying to do just for the sake of money, it was really stressing me out, so let it go – I did! I switched up priorities to ones that made more sense for me and gave me a feeling of “fun” (and calm stomach!) Therefore my summer has felt more child-like, more FUN! Did a few things get pushed aside like house work or yard work? For sure, however, it’s still there and had I pushed too hard to be all and do all, I wouldn’t be writing this right now. It will all get done (and I didn’t lose any friends over the lack of finished projects either!) The kids will be at school for most of the day soon, and I will feel comfortable completing the unfinished whatever… We don’t have anyone to impress but our selves. And as long as we love and respect our decisions, more impressive situations will occur! Trying to LIVE IN THE MOMENT is the way of a child. It’s a feeling of freedom and joy. It makes your path clearer and your experiences fuller! Live like a child today, you will be happy that you did!!  Best wishes always… until next time….

Silent Inspiration

I saw a man intently jogging this morning. Listening to his personal music through a set of earphones, looking strong and giving off an energy of joy, like he was truly enjoying doing what most would consider tedious. Maybe he was listening to a particularly uplifting song or maybe he was feeling the endorphins run through his system as he exercised his body. Either way, matters not, however, in that brief moment as I was driving my wonderful and sleepy children to school, I noticed him and I actually sat up taller in my seat. I did not sit up taller to be noticed, I sat up taller because he silently inspired me to also take care of myself, improve my posture and respect my own strength. This stranger, whom ever he was, had no idea that he inspired someone else while he was caring for himself. Yet that is what we all do from time to time, without notice. We silently inspire others to lift themselves up, if only for a moment and a moment is all it takes. Here’s to all of you out there silently inspiring the world with your own inner beauty………….. Health and Happiness to all!

QIGONG: A BOON FOR CANCER PATIENTS

Image

I read an article in one of my natural awakenings magazines and found it to be quite sharable…so here it is:  Cancer patients that regularly practiced qigong, a 5,000-year-old combination of gentle exercise and meditation, for almost 3 months experienced significantly higher levels of well-being, improved cognitive functioning and less inflammation, compared to a control group. Dr. Byeongsang Oh, a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Sydney Medical School, in Australia, who led the study, says the reduced inflammation in patients that practiced medical qigong, a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was particularly significant.

The project involved 162 patients, aged 31 – 86; those assigned to the medical qigong group undertook a 10-week program of two supervised, 90-minute sessions per week. They were also asked to practice an additional 30 min. at home each day.

When the study began, there were no significant differences in measurements of quality of life, fatigue, mood status and inflammation between the intervention and control groups. However, “Patients that practiced medical qigong experienced significant improvements in quality of life, including greater physical, functional, social and emotional well-being, while the control group deteriorated in all of these areas,” reports Oh.

He remarks that the study is the first such trial to measure the impact of medical qigong in patients with cancer. “Several studies have indicated that chronic inflammation is associated with cancer incidence, progression and even survival,” Oh explains. He presented the findings at a recent American Society of Clinical Oncology conference. (Natural Awakenings: April 2012.)

I think this is so awesome and hope that this information and practice keeps growing all around the world! Peace and Good Health to all of you….

Fitness Tip

Working on a leaner, stronger stomach and core area? Try this…

While driving (because what else do you have to do other than day dream – which you can do at the same time.) Sit up straight and pull your abdominal muscles in toward your spine, do not hold your breath, breath normal, hold the contraction of these muscles in for as long as you can (work up to the time of one song on the radio) then release and relax for the equal amount of time (I like to try one song on, one song off – but this could depend on what type of music you listen to, don’t get all crazy and try to hold it for a song like – Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, ha,ha) Good Luck  (and please don’t forget that we should be drinking (daily) 1/2 our body weight, in ounces, of pure, fresh water!)

Health Tip:

Want to feel good physically and mentally? Drink half your body weight in ounces of WATER! If you weight 120 lbs. you should consume 60 oz. of water a day. If you sweat a lot or drink caffeine or alcohol, you need to add more water to your original intake amount. Also, it is very important to have 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of unrefined, natural sea salt that contains all its natural minerals! Not that yucky bleached to death pure sodium table salt. Our bodies need the salt and water mixture to run everything correctly including our hormones (which are tied in with our emotions and many other things that we are working on as a whole.) I really enjoy a brand of sea salt called ‘Real Salt’ although that salt does not supply Iodide which is a natural element that we need, however you can supplement in other ways. If you want more information on this water/salt and the body topic, please check out the books I have chosen on my main blog page. There are a few books on this subject that I loved reading and think you would enjoy, also. Good Luck and Happy Health To You and Yours!!
